Today, I want to share one of my favorite drills that my team does at practice! It's really simple, and is fun for everybody (but I think it's especially fun for the goalie)! It's the one touch and shoot drill! I love this drill because it's fast and fun. The goalie gets to try to block shot after shot and the rest of the team takes turns settling a ball passed to them before making a shot.
You can set this drill up by lining everyone up (except for the goalie :P) at about mid field. Your coach (or another player who wants to help out) will stand about halfway between the goal and the start of the line. From there, she'll pass a ball to each player as the player makes a run on the goal! Once the player gets to the ball she has one touch to control it and another to shoot!
You might be thinking, "how is this fun for midfielders and defenders?! They don't take shots that often!" That's true for defenders, and pretty true for a lot of midfielders, but you can think of this exercise as a way to practice getting a precise pass off quickly after controlling the ball! It's also a good way for defenders to get in the heads of the forwards they're defending against! You can mix things up a bit by adding a defender to challenge the player shooting if you want :)
