Seattle Sounders Women and Seattle Reign FC - what's the difference? I sure found this a bit confusing at first!
Seattle Sounders Women
The Sounders Women's team was founded in 2001 as a sister team to the Seattle Sounders men's team and is a part of the United Soccer Leagues W-League. This means that they play against the Colorado Force, Colorado Rush, LA Strikers, Pali Blues, Santa Clarita Blue Heat, and the Bay Area Breeze. They also play local university teams, like the University of Washington's women's soccer team during their season. The team's current owners are Mike Jennings, Cliff McElroy, and Lane Smith and Hubert Busby Jr. and Zahra Lechak are their new head and assistant coaches this season. They play at the Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila and their first game for the 2013 season is on April 14th against Oregon State! You can find the rest of their schedule here.
Seattle Reign FC
Seattle Reign FC is Seattle's newest women's sports team and is one of eight teams in the newly formed National Women's Soccer League. This means that the Reign will play the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit, and the Western New York Flash. Fun fact: the team name was chosen in homage to Seattle's first professional women's sports team, a basketball team called the Seattle Reign. Bill Predmore owns Seattle Reign FC and Laura Harvey is the team's first head coach. Some of the team's most notable members are Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe! Just like the Sounders Women, Seattle Reign FC's home games are played at the Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila. Their first game of the season is on April 14th against the Chicago Red Stars! You can see the rest of their schedule here.
